Ozzy Osbourne's family decided to create an AI avatar of him
The family of legendary English rock musician Ozzy Osbourne has announced the creation of a full-scale, AI-powered interactive avatar of him, one year after his death.
The project is being developed by technology companies Hyperreal and Proto Hologram, and was presented by the artist’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, and son, Jack, during the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, according to The Guardian.
According to the developers and the family, the digital image of the former Black Sabbath frontman is being created exclusively using authentic and verified materials. Hyperreal CEO Remington Scott assured that, thanks to AI technology, the digital Ozzy will be able to move, speak, and react to external stimuli exactly as the living musician did. Sharon Osbourne added that they plan to display the avatar worldwide via special interactive screens so that fans can interact with it, comparing this idea to the preservation of Elvis Presley’s cultural legacy.
The project’s announcement sparked a wave of outrage and criticism among fans of Ozzy Osbourne’s work, who called the creation of an AI clone a sign of disrespect for the late rocker’s memory and an attempt to profit from his name after his death. Jack Osborne denied the accusations, stating that everything would be done “with taste,” and that the family had discussed the concept of digitization in detail with the musician during his lifetime, and he fully supported the idea. As a reminder, Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and severe injuries.
