A Ukrainian bandura was donated to the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome as part of an initiative aimed at cultural diplomacy and promoting Ukrainian heritage in Europe.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy.
The ceremony was organized by the Ukrainian association Ucraina CreAttiva, led by Viktoria Shevchenko. The event was attended by museum director Sonia Martone, representatives of the Italian Ministry of Culture, and Ukrainian Ambassador to Italy Ihor Brusilo.
According to Brusilo, the bandura is not only a musical instrument but also a symbol of historical memory and Ukrainian identity.
“That is precisely why the bandura has always been a thorn in the side of empires that feared the truth and an independent Ukraine,” the diplomat noted.
Following the official proceedings, a concert of classical and folk music featuring Ukrainian performers took place. The highlight of the evening was a performance by musician Maksym Zhukovsky, who played Ukrainian compositions on the gifted bandura.
