The Whisper Man about kidnappings in the US released on Netflix — Daily Maverick
The thriller The Whisper Man is set in the United States, and the film is already available on Netflix. As Daily Maverick notes, the film was directed by James Ashcroft, while Robert De Niro played former police officer Pete Willis.
Kidnapping investigation
Writer Tom Kennedy, played by Adam Scott, returns with his eight-year-old son Jake to his hometown of Garetton, New Jersey, after the death of his wife. The boy suffered trauma, as he found his mother's body when he came home from school.
The move coincides with the kidnapping of another boy. The case resembles a series of murders that took place in Garetton 25 years ago. Detective Amanda Beck, played by Michelle Monaghan, turns to Willis: he had previously arrested Frank Carter, known as the Whisper Man.

Cast and assessment
Carter, portrayed by Michael Keaton, received his nickname because he whispered near the bedroom windows of boys, luring them out at night. Since he is in prison, investigators are considering the possibility of a copycat or an unidentified accomplice. When Jake is kidnapped, Tom turns to Willis for help and learns that he is his father. Tom had distanced himself from him and changed his surname because of Willis's obsession with finding Carter.
The Daily Maverick reviewer highlights the performances of De Niro, as well as Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton. Hamish Linklater also appears in the film as an eccentric collector of murder-related memorabilia. According to the outlet, the film holds attention with plot twists and red herrings, although tension builds fully only in the finale, and experienced viewers may guess the identity of the criminal in advance.
