In Finland, Yle marks its centenary with a show in Helsinki
In Helsinki, Finland, public broadcaster Yle is holding a celebratory programme to mark its 100th anniversary. The day includes a children’s concert, a behind-the-scenes tour, the evening Yle 100 Show and a metal classics concert featuring the Radio Symphony Orchestra.
As YLE News reports, the live broadcast of the event will begin at 11:00. The first part of the programme will be a bilingual children’s concert featuring characters from Pikku Kakkonen and BUU-klubben. It will last one hour.
Evening programme
At 17:00, doors will open for the main event. Visitors will be able to see an exhibition of Yle costumes and the set of Viki & Köpi Show. From 17:30, journalists Jaakko Oleander and Piiri Vaismaa will answer viewers’ questions and guide them around the arena and backstage for approximately one hour.

At 19:00, the 90-minute Yle 100 Show will begin. The programme will include memories from the broadcaster’s century-long history and musical performances by Erika Vikman, Hector, Jenni Vartiainen, JVG and Mirella. The orchestra will be conducted by Kalle Torniainen, while the show will be hosted by Jenni Poikelus, Mikko Kekäläinen and Sonja Kailassaari.
Finale with metal classics
The final concert will run from 21:00 to 22:00. The Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eero Lehtimäki, will perform metal classics, with vocalists including Marko Hietala, Noora Louhimo and Timo Kotipelto.
Yle is marking its 100th anniversary. The company’s first broadcast was heard on 9 September 1926, when its managing director, Leonard Mauritz Vigerjuuri, delivered a speech on the radio.
