Exhibition on Lefkara lace opens in Pedoulas, Cyprus

The exhibition Stitched into the Landscape by artists Andreani Panayides and Vasilis Savvidis opened in the village of Pedoulas in Cyprus on September 11. The exhibition at the Elyssia Boutique Hotel will run until November 11. It is part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme under the auspices of Cyprus’ Ministry of Culture.

Graphics and lace

The exhibition features Savvidis’ graphic works, hand-drawn on linen with a textile marker. They depict scenes from everyday life in Cyprus: old doors and windows, a game of tavli, a cup of Cypriot coffee and a traditional Cypriot chair.

Panayides hand-embroidered traditional Lefkara lace onto these works. A tavli set was also installed alongside the pictures, with dice and playing pieces replaced by Lefkara lace. According to Cyprus Mail, all works in the exhibition were made by hand, without printing.

Workshops for visitors

As part of the project, Andreani Panayides will hold free workshops on the Lefkara lace technique for local residents and visitors. They are scheduled for September 12 and 13, as well as October 10 and 11.

Panayides founded the fashion brand Folkmona and studied the Lefkara lace technique at the Cyprus Handicraft Service. Savvidis works in animation. The artists combined graphic images and hand embroidery in a series of works dedicated to traditional craftsmanship and everyday scenes in Cyprus.
