Russia extends diesel export ban until the end of October — Asharq Al-Awsat

Russia, an aggressor state, has extended its ban on diesel fuel exports until the end of October. The Russian government announced this on September 30, Asharq Al-Awsat writes.

Previous restrictions

At the end of August, Moscow had already extended the ban on diesel exports until the end of September. At the same time, supplies to certain countries, including former Soviet states and Mongolia, were permitted under intergovernmental agreements.

Russia has repeatedly imposed restrictions on exports of gasoline and diesel fuel in order to curb rising domestic prices and overcome shortages. According to the publication, the shortage was caused by Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries.

Market situation

Russia had already reduced diesel exports in the summer before introducing restrictions on foreign supplies. The country is usually the world’s second-largest exporter of diesel fuel after the United States.

The global fuel market is under additional pressure due to conflicts and supply disruptions. Reuters reported that in the United States, the price of diesel reached a record of more than $6.50 per gallon due to the wars in Iran and Ukraine, which are limiting fuel supplies.

In the United Kingdom, diesel prices at filling stations also reached record levels, the RAC motoring organization reported. It linked this to the war by the United States and Israel against Iran.
