China plans pilot with 16,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles — ECNS

In Guangzhou, China, plans were announced for a four-year pilot program to develop hydrogen transport. The program, led by Guangzhou, provides for the deployment of 16,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and the construction of 100 hydrogen refueling stations.

Program participants

Eleven cities in five Chinese provinces — Guangdong, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan and Hainan — are expected to join the program, ECNS reports. Three more cities in Guangdong province will support the project’s implementation, while Hong Kong will participate in broader regional coordination.

In August, the pilot initiative received in-principle approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission.

Transport corridors and industry

The plans also provide for the creation of four hydrogen transport corridors and the expansion of hydrogen use in industry. Hydrogen has been included in the list of six industries of the future under China’s 15th Five-Year Plan.
