China expects pediatric care at more than 95% of local medical centers by the end of 2026

China expects that by the end of 2026, more than 95% of township health centers and community health service centers will provide pediatric care. This was announced on September 14 by Lei Haichao, head of the National Health Commission.

Availability of pediatric care

As ECNS reports, Lei Haichao gave this estimate at a press conference held by the Information Office of China’s State Council. The statement was made on Monday.

The figure covers township health centers and community health service centers, which are primary healthcare institutions.

Expansion of services

In 2026, China plans to introduce pediatric services at another 1,000 such institutions. Separately, Lei Haichao said that 3,100 pediatricians have already been assigned to work at primary healthcare facilities.

The plan concerning 1,000 institutions applies to 2026, while the number of assigned pediatricians is given as an already completed figure.
