Ukrainian eggs are flooding the British market

UA NEWS 22 April 2026 11:25
Ukrainian eggs are flooding the British market

Competition between local producers and suppliers from Ukraine is intensifying rapidly in the UK.

British farmers claim that the influx of cheaper Ukrainian products is putting excessive pressure on the domestic market and driving out local farms.

The main source of discontent is the significant price difference, which makes Ukrainian goods more attractive to industrial consumers.

The situation became particularly acute after London abolished tariffs and quotas to support the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

Demand for eggs among Britons has been steadily rising, reaching an average of 209 eggs per person last year.

This surge is driven by the popularity of home baking and the trend toward eating breakfast outside the home, which requires a huge amount of raw materials.

The country lacks sufficient domestic capacity: 273 million dozen eggs were produced in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Despite these significant volumes, this does not meet the population’s needs, forcing retailers and the food industry to seek resources abroad.
