Sumosan restaurant in Nicosia receives positive review for Japanese cuisine — Cyprus Mail
The Sumosan modern Japanese cuisine restaurant at the Landmark Nicosia hotel in Cyprus received an overall positive review for its fish, wagyu and seafood dishes, although some items, in the reviewer’s opinion, were overly generously supplemented with truffle. This was stated in a Cyprus Mail review dedicated to the restaurant on Makarios Avenue in Nicosia.
The venue describes its cuisine as modern Japanese. The interior is decorated in natural tones, using natural materials and thoughtful lighting. During dinner, guests were served salted edamame, a salad with green beans, toasted pine nuts and sesame dressing, as well as tuna sashimi in tacos with spicy mayonnaise, jalapeño and wasabi.
Wagyu, fish and seafood
Among the starters, the reviewer noted wagyu tataki, briefly seared on the outside and left almost raw inside, as well as beef fillet and bone marrow tartare. The dish was served along a split bone with brioche, umeboshi and sesame oil.
At the same time, yellowtail tiradito with yuzu vinaigrette and black truffle shavings received a critical assessment: according to the review’s author, the truffle overpowered the delicate flavour of the fish and vinaigrette.

Main courses included grilled black cod with miso, prawns with wasabi mayonnaise and mango-passion fruit salsa, as well as wagyu katsu-sando in homemade milk bread. The reviewer specifically noted the pairing of the prawns with the fruit salsa, which balanced the spiciness and richness of the mayonnaise.
Sushi and desserts
Guests were also served a chef’s selection of nigiri, sashimi and maki rolls. The review’s author gave a positive assessment of the restaurant’s sushi, particularly the fish served with warm rice.
For dessert, chocolate fondant with a liquid white chocolate centre and vanilla ice cream was served, as well as a hot chocolate cookie in a skillet with salted caramel ice cream. Sumosan Cyprus is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 18:30 to 23:30. Prices for starters are listed from €6.5 to €38, and for main courses from €5.5 to €97.
