19-year-old Ukrainian wrestler Maria Yefremova advanced to the European Championship final after defeating opponents from Russia and Belarus in a single day.
Yefremova competes in the 53 kg weight class. At the start of the competition, she defeated Russia’s Natalia Malysheva, and in the quarterfinals, she beat Spain’s Carla Jaume Soler.
In the semifinals, the Ukrainian confidently defeated the decorated Belarusian Vanessa Kaladzinskaya—a two-time world champion and Olympic medalist.
In the final, scheduled for April 24, Yefremova will face experienced Greek athlete Maria Prevolaraki.
