World champion in the long jump, Mattia Furlani, was injured and withdrew from the European Championships
Italian long jumper Mattia Furlani was injured during the qualifying round of the European Athletics Championships, currently being held in Birmingham, UK.
After his first attempt, the athlete felt severe pain in his right leg and was unable to leave the jumping pit on his own. He was wheeled out of the arena in a wheelchair.
Due to the injury, the reigning world champion and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist ended his participation in the continental championships early.
