Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska has concluded her run at the WTA 500 clay-court tournament in Charleston, South Carolina. 

In the round of 32, the Ukrainian lost in a tense match to the world No. 11 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.

The match got off to a rough start for Dayana: the Swiss player confidently dominated the court, taking the first set 6-2. Yastremska struggled significantly with her serve, allowing her opponent to quickly seize the initiative.

In the second set, the Ukrainian managed to turn the tide of the match and put up a serious fight against her renowned opponent. 

The set was decided in a tiebreak, where Dayana showed her grit and snatched the victory—7-6 (5), tying the match at one set apiece.

The decisive third set was again dominated by Bencic, who managed to capitalize on her breakpoint opportunities more effectively. The final score of 3–6 in favor of the Swiss player put an end to the match.

In total, the tense match lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. 

The statistics highlight the Ukrainian’s inconsistent play: Dayana did not record a single ace, committed 9 double faults, and lost 5 games on her own serve.

For Yastremska and Bencic, this was their sixth head-to-head match at the professional level. Following this victory, the Swiss player strengthened her lead in their head-to-head record—the score now stands at 5-1 in her favor.

As a reminder, former world No. 2 Kvitova gave birth to twins.
