De Minaur prepares in Australia for Davis Cup tie against Poland
In Brisbane, Australia, tennis player Alex de Minaur is preparing for the Davis Cup qualifying tie between the Australia and Poland teams, which will begin on Saturday. The world No. 9 hopes that the team tournament will help him regain his competitive spark after a surprising second-round loss at the US Open, ABC News Australia reports.
Preparation in Brisbane
After losing to Botic van de Zandschulp, de Minaur immediately travelled to Brisbane. There, he trained for more than a week with Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt ahead of the match against Poland.
The Australian noted that training with the team had been an important change for him. He said he feels good physically and mentally and believes that everything is starting to come together properly this week.
Earlier this year, de Minaur was ranked fifth in the world, but dropped to ninth after the US Open. He reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open.

Poland team lineup
Poland will play without former world No. 6 Hubert Hurkacz, who is missing the tie as he continues recovering from injury. The Polish team will be led by ATP world No. 73 Kamil Majchrzak.
On Wednesday, Rinky Hijikata and Max Purcell trained as a doubles pair against Hewitt and de Minaur. This may indicate that Hijikata and Purcell will play in the doubles match scheduled for Sunday. The full draw for the Australia-Poland tie will be announced on Friday.

De Minaur has 17 wins and 10 losses in Davis Cup singles matches. He made his tournament debut in Brisbane in 2018, when he lost to Alexander Zverev in a fifth-set tiebreak.
