Jontay Porter returns to basketball after lifetime NBA ban over betting scandal
Forward Jontay Porter, who was permanently banned by the NBA due to a betting scandal, has signed a contract with the Seattle SuperHawks club of the revived semi-professional USBL league. This marks his first game appearance since his ban in 2024. His debut is scheduled for March 7.
Despite Porter’s return to competition, his criminal case remains unresolved. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud, which theoretically carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. According to ESPN, though, the likely sentence is expected to be between 3 and 4 years, sparking debates about fairness and integrity in sports competitions.
