Fenerbahçe tied with Lyon in the Champions League playoffs
Turkey's Fenerbahçe tied 1–1 with France's Lyon in the first leg of the Champions League playoffs in Istanbul. Following this result, the teams remain evenly matched heading into the second leg, according to France 24.
“Lyon” took the lead thanks to a header by Lois Openda. It was the forward’s first goal for the French club. Shortly after halftime, Mason Greenwood equalized, setting the final score of the match.

In another match of the day, Norway’s Viking Stavanger played to a 2–2 draw against Dinamo Zagreb on the road. The Croatian club scored two goals in the first 10 minutes: Dion Beljo and Mateo Lisica found the back of the net.
“Viking” tied the game before halftime thanks to goals by Peter Christiansen and Zlatko Tripić. The Norwegian club is competing in the Champions League for the first time in 34 years and is aiming to advance to the group stage of the tournament for the first time. Also in Bulgaria, Levski and Athens-based AEK played to a 0–0 draw. The second legs are scheduled for August 25–26.
