The U.S. Open has announced a record prize pool of $108 million

The US Open will take place in New York from August 23 to September 13. According to the organizers, the prize money for players eliminated in the first round will set a new record for Grand Slam tournaments: it will amount to $140,000, which is 27% more than last year’s figure.
The new prize money structure was announced shortly after the four major tennis tournaments announced the creation of the Grand Slam Players’ Council. The council is intended to give players a say on various issues, including prize money.
