PSG moved its opening match of the French league to Rennes due to a damaged field

"Paris Saint-Germain" has moved its opening match of its French league title defense against "Rennes" to the city of Rennes due to damage to the turf at the "Parc des Princes" stadium. The game, scheduled for Sunday, will take place at the opponent’s stadium, Al Jazeera English reports, citing a decision by the French Football Competition Committee.

PSG stated that the turf at the club’s home stadium had deteriorated significantly following the summer heat. According to the club, the current condition of the field did not allow the match to be played under proper conditions, particularly with regard to the safety and physical well-being of the players.

The venue change was agreed upon with Rennes. PSG thanked their opponent for the opportunity to play the match and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to fans and those who had planned to attend the game in Paris.

The club announced that it had found a solution to replace the turf at Parc des Princes. Work is set to begin before PSG’s next Ligue 1 home match against Monaco, scheduled for September 4. The Parisians have already kicked off the season with a victory over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup match in Salzburg, Austria.
