Verstappen was disqualified after his victory at the Nürburgring

The team of four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen was stripped of its victory in a prestigious race of the NLS2 series (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie).

The Dutch driver, who competed for his own team, Verstappen Racing, alongside teammates Jules Guignon and Daniel Juncadella, fell victim to technical regulations.

His triumphant finish in the 4-hour race on the legendary German "Nordschleife" circuit at the Nürburgring was annulled by a decision of the stewards.

The reason for the harsh penalty was a violation of the limit on the number of tire sets used during the race.

According to the series regulations, teams are allowed to use no more than 24 tires throughout the entire race.

However, the technical commission determined that Verstappen’s team actually used 28 tires, which is four more than the established limit.

“Instead of the permitted 24 tires, Verstappen’s team used 28. Despite this, it is unlikely that the Verstappen Racing team’s victory was achieved unfairly, as the overall gap to second place was nearly 1 minute,” race analysts report.

Despite the significant time gap from the pursuers, which demonstrated the car’s undeniable speed, the technical violation led to the complete disqualification of car No. 3.

After Verstappen’s result was annulled, first place officially went to car No. 99.

The winners of the race were Harper and Pepper, who competed in the updated BMW M4 GT3 Evo.

For Max Verstappen, this competition was supposed to be a key stage in his preparation for the main event of the season in touring car racing—the “24 Hours of the Nürburgring.”

The endurance marathon race is scheduled for May 14–17, 2026.

Participation in the NLS series allows the Formula 1 driver to adapt to the specifics of the track and work with the team in the GT3 format, which differs significantly from “Formula 1.”
