A Sunderland player was the victim of racism after a Premier League match

Sunderland Football Club issued an official statement strongly condemning the wave of racist abuse directed at striker Brian Brobbey.

Cyberbullying erupted on social media immediately after the conclusion of a tense Premier League match against London’s Tottenham.

Despite the Black Cats’ narrow victory, the game was marked by a series of controversial incidents involving Brobbey.

The emotional tension on the field provoked some fans to make aggressive comments on Instagram immediately after the final whistle.

The fans’ anger was sparked by the forward’s rough clashes with the visitors’ defenders. In particular, the incident involving Pedro Porro sparked controversy over the legitimacy of the striker’s actions, as the referee decided not to severely punish Bryan for his aggressive play.

The situation escalated in the second half when, after a shove by Brobbey, defender Cristian Romero was injured following a collision with his own goalkeeper.

Romero left the field in tears, which became a “trigger for aggressive comments online” from fans.

Sunderland’s management has already reached out to law enforcement and social media platforms to identify the offenders.

The club emphasizes that this is not the first such incident, as Romain Mandl and Lutsarel Gertrude have previously faced discrimination.

In an official statement, the club underscored its unwavering stance: “We stand firmly by Brian and offer him our full support.”

Team representatives consider racism a repugnant phenomenon that has no place in sports or in a civilized society.
