India defeated Sri Lanka in its 600th Test thanks to Suthar's 10 wickets

The Indian national cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test match in Galle and took a 1–0 lead in the two-match series. Spinner Manav Suthar was the standout player of the match, taking a total of 10 wickets in only his second Test for India.

In the second innings, Sri Lanka needed to score 372 runs to win, but the team was dismissed for 206 runs shortly after the lunch break on the final day of the match. Suthar took six wickets for 55 runs and had claimed four more in the first innings.

The hosts resumed play at 84-4 and lost two wickets during the morning session. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva scored 59 runs and, together with Sonal Dinusha, added 95 runs for the fifth wicket. Dinusha, who scored a century in the first innings, was Sri Lanka’s top scorer in the second innings with 84 runs. He played 128 balls, hitting eight fours and one six.

After lunch, Suthar bowled a no-run over with three wickets, and in the next over, he took the final wicket of Keshara Nuwanta. The Sri Lankan team lost its last four wickets, scoring only seven runs, all of which went to Suthar.

Among India’s other standout performers was Devdatt Padikkal, who came into the match as a late replacement due to injury and scored 167 and 44 runs. The second Test of the series will take place in Colombo and begin on Sunday.
