Italy’s Fiorentina bring back Paolo Vanoli after Fabio Grosso’s dismissal
Italy’s Fiorentina have brought Paolo Vanoli back as first-team coach after dismissing Fabio Grosso. The decision was made after three consecutive defeats at the start of the new Serie A season, which left the Florence club at the bottom of the standings.
Poor start to the season
Under Grosso, Fiorentina scored one goal and conceded nine in their first three league matches. The former World Cup winner was dismissed following this run of poor results.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, Vanoli had already managed the club last season. In November, he replaced Stefano Pioli when the team had been unable to win for 10 consecutive matches.

Vanoli’s previous work
Vanoli led Fiorentina out of the relegation zone and finished the season in 15th place. He also guided the team to the Conference League quarter-finals, where it lost to the eventual tournament winner, Crystal Palace.
In a statement, the club announced Vanoli’s appointment as technical director of the first team and thanked him for agreeing to lead it again. The coach will have his first opportunity to improve the situation on Friday, when Fiorentina play away against Serie A newcomers Venezia. The Venice club have also lost all three opening matches and have not earned any points.
