Ukraine's youth national team lost to Hungary in their second match at the 2026 World Cup
Ukraine's junior national hockey team suffered a defeat in its second game of the 2026 World Championship in Division 1A.
Our team lost to their Hungarian counterparts 4-6, unable to turn around the game after a poor start.
The start of the first period proved disastrous for the Ukrainians, as the team conceded four goals in a row. Rakosi opened the scoring just two minutes in, followed by Songot’s second goal, and Baroti successfully capitalized on a power play.
“Ratusnyak and Vorotelyak gave the Ukrainian team hope by scoring two goals at the end of the first twenty minutes,” noted match observers.
Despite this burst of activity, Hungarian forward Songot scored a hat trick at the start of the second period, widening the lead once again.
Olifirchuk managed to cut the deficit to 3-5, but the opponent quickly responded with a precise shot by Bregel.
Vasyak put the final nail in the coffin late in the game, scoring into the empty Hungarian net after assists from Naumenko and Vorotelyak.
The final score of 4-6 leaves the Ukrainian national team in a difficult position in the tournament. The Division 1A championship will continue until April 24, and the group winner will earn the right to advance to the elite division of world hockey.
The next test for the Ukrainian juniors is scheduled for April 21 at 5:00 p.m.
Our national team’s opponent will be the Kazakhstan national team, and a victory over them is critical to maintaining their chances of finishing in the top spots.
