Kenyans win Tallinn Marathon men’s and women’s races
In Tallinn, Estonia, Kenyan runners Evans Kimtai Kiprono and Vivian Cherotich won the men’s and women’s races of the Tallinn Marathon, respectively. Estonian Karel Hussar finished second among the men, while his partner Liis-Grete Hussar took third place in the women’s race, ERR News reports.
Men’s race
Kiprono stayed with the leading group during the first half of the distance and accelerated at the 30-kilometer mark. Over the next five kilometers, he opened a gap of three and a half minutes over his closest pursuer and finished in 2:12:48.
Karel Hussar covered the distance in 2:18:21, trailing the winner by 5 minutes and 53 seconds. Kenyan athlete Donald Kimaru Biwott was third in 2:20:43, while Finland’s Jaakko Jarvi was fourth with 2:20:56. Six Estonians made the top 10. In the Estonian Championship standings, Bert Tippi and Ando Õitspuu joined Hussar on the podium.

Women’s race and relay
Cherotich finished 12th overall and first among women with a time of 2:31:58. Her compatriot Rolex Jelimo Kogo was second in 2:34:19. Liis-Grete Hussar placed third in 2:38:42, 6 minutes and 44 seconds slower than the winner.
In the women’s Estonian Championship standings, Külli Sisask was second with a time of 2:39:03, while Helen Bell was third in 2:39:19. The marathon relay was won by the Spordiklubi Deporte team in 2:28:53. Rescue Board took second place in 2:36:58, and Enefit was third with a time of 2:41:28. Rain started only later that day.
