The NBU is concluding its "Flora and Fauna of Ukraine" series with a coin featuring the bison
The National Bank of Ukraine is issuing a new commemorative coin titled “Chernobyl. Rebirth. Bison” with a face value of 5 hryvnias. This coin concludes the “Flora and Fauna of Ukraine” coin series, dedicated to the country’s natural environment and biodiversity.
This was reported by the NBU press service.
It is noted that the bison is a majestic and unique animal, listed in Ukraine’s Red Book as early as 1980. Once extinct in these territories due to poaching, it has unexpectedly returned.
It was first spotted in the Chernobyl zone in 2012, and since then, the animal’s presence has been recorded multiple times in various parts of the exclusion zone.
"Unfortunately, the international project to restore their population, planned for 2022, has not yet been implemented due to the full-scale invasion. But despite this, nature does not give up. That is why our coin serves as a reminder of the power of life," the regulator notes.
According to the NBU, the obverse features a symbolic wheel of life, signifying the rebirth of nature: in the center is a stylized international "Radiation Hazard" symbol, enveloped in foliage, surrounded by images of animals whose populations thrive within the 30-kilometer exclusion zone (brown bear, moose, bison, lynx, Przewalski’s horse, and black stork).
The reverse features a bison against a landscape backdrop (color print).
Artist: Natalia Fandikova.
Sculptors: Anatoliy Demyanenko, Volodymyr Demyanenko.
Mintage: 40,000 pieces (including 20,000 pieces in souvenir packaging).
"The coin will be available for purchase at the NBU’s online numismatic store and through distributor banks. Check their websites for the start of sales," the National Bank announced.
The NBU has seta record for reserves and will transfer over 146 billion hryvnias to the budget.
As a reminder, the NBU may revoke MTB Bank’s license.
Additionally, on November 4, the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) decided to classify JSC "RVS Bank" as insolvent.
