Two-time Stanley Cup champion Kopitar has retired

Los Angeles Kings captain Anže Kopitar has announced his retirement after a 20-year career in the NHL.

This was reported on the club’s official website.

The Slovenian forward’s final game was against the Colorado Avalanche (1-5) in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Kings lost the series 0-4 and ended their season.

In the regular season this year, Kopitar played 71 games, scoring 38 points (12 goals and 26 assists). In the playoffs, he played four games without recording any points.

Kopitar became the first Slovenian in NHL history and spent nearly his entire career with the Los Angeles Kings. He won the Stanley Cup twice with the team—in 2012 and 2014.

Over his league career, the forward played 1,628 games, scored 479 goals, and recorded 926 assists.

Kopitar’s individual achievements include appearances in the All-Star Game, awards for leadership and sportsmanship, as well as recognition as one of the best defensive forwards.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s U19 national team has been drawn into Group B at the European Championship. The team, led by Dmytro Mykhailenko, will compete in the final stage of the tournament.

The Ukrainian national soccer team dropped in the updated FIFA rankings, falling from 30th to 32nd place.
