The organizers have approved the program for the 2027 European Games

The Turkish city of Istanbul has been selected to host the upcoming European Games, which will take place from June 16 to 27, 2027.

The official competition program has already been approved, and the Games themselves will serve as a strategically important stepping stone for athletes on their path to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The main feature of the upcoming tournament is its qualifying status, as most disciplines will allow athletes to earn Olympic licenses.

Tickets to the quadrennial flagship event will be awarded both through a direct quota system and by awarding important ranking points.

In total, the sports program includes 26 sports, 22 of which are Olympic disciplines and fully correspond to the program of the upcoming Games in the United States.

Spectators will see competitions in badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, water sports, judo, karate, fencing, and many other popular disciplines.

This year’s list of sports features historic debuts that have never before been represented at this level.

For the first time in the history of the European Games, athletes will compete in coastal rowing, weightlifting, and squash, which is also preparing for its debut at the 2028 Olympics.

In addition to the newcomers, the Istanbul 2027 program marked the long-awaited return of classic disciplines that were absent from the previous competition in Krakow.

These include wrestling, volleyball, and gymnastics, which will once again be an integral part of the major sporting event in Turkey.

Seven players from the Eritrean national soccer team went missing after a match in South Africa.

As a reminder, Mircea Lucescu, the former coach of Kyiv’s Dynamo and Donetsk’s Shakhtar, was placed in an induced coma following another episode of severe cardiac arrhythmia.

Former star of London’s Chelsea and the Brazilian national team, Oscar, was forced to announce the end of his professional career. He is currently 34 years old.
