South Korea to play Japan for baseball gold — Korea Herald
South Korea’s national baseball team will play Japan on Sunday in the final of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in the Japanese city of Toyohashi. The team is aiming for its fifth consecutive gold medal at the tournament, Korea Herald reports.
Final against the tournament hosts
The game will begin at 18:30 at the stadium in Toyohashi, located about 85 kilometers southeast of Nagoya. South Korea’s national team is led by Ryu Ji-hyun and includes leading players from the Korea Baseball Organization.
The Korean team won all three matches in the preliminary round but lost 0-5 to Japan in its first super round game on Friday. The following day, South Korea defeated China 9-2 and secured a place in the final. Japan beat Chinese Taipei 7-3 on Saturday.

Decisive match in women’s handball
On Sunday, South Korea’s women’s national handball team will also face Japan in a gold medal match. The game will take place at 18:00 at the Entrio arena in Inazawa, northwest of Nagoya.
There are no playoffs in the women’s handball tournament: medals will be awarded based on the results of the round-robin stage. Before the final match, South Korea and Japan had each won five out of five games. South Korea’s handball players won the first five consecutive gold medals after women’s handball was included in the Asian Games program in 1990, but lost to Japan 19-29 in the final of the 2023 Asian Games.
Also in athletics, high jumper Woo Sang-hyeok will compete for his first Asian Games title. The two-time silver medalist missed about three months due to a foot injury sustained during competition in May and, after returning in August, was unable to match his season-best result of 2.30 meters.
