Fury promoter: decision on Joshua fight depends on Joshua
Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said that staging a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua primarily depends on Joshua’s decision. According to The Japan Times, the bout between the two former world heavyweight champions is expected on November 20, with Madison Square Garden in New York named as a likely venue.
The fight was initially meant to take place in the United Kingdom. Fury said in a social media post that the bout appears likely not to happen and accused Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn of seeking more money from Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh.
Promoters’ positions
Warren, who represents Fury, stressed that the 38-year-old boxer is ready to face Joshua anywhere. According to the promoter, Fury did not sign up to hold the fight in America, but wants the bout to take place without organizational disputes.

At the same time, Hearn claims that holding the fight in the United States would mean financial losses for Joshua. He wants compensation for agreeing to move the bout from the United Kingdom. Warren acknowledged that the contract provided for the fight to be held in the United Kingdom, but said that the final decision on Joshua’s participation belongs to the boxer himself.
Previous fight and venue
Warren also mentioned Joshua’s July bout with Christian Prenga. Joshua knocked out his opponent in the second round, but before that he was knocked down twice in the first. The promoter called the fight difficult for Joshua.
The idea of holding the bout outside the United Kingdom has caused dissatisfaction among some British fans. Hearn insists on staging the fight at London’s Wembley Stadium. Warren agreed that Wembley would be a suitable venue, but recalled Muhammad Ali’s fights against Joe Frazier and George Foreman, which took place outside the United States because of financial arrangements. He also said that Netflix is the broadcaster of the fight and is financing its staging.
