Russian cycling champion disqualified for doping
Yegor Toyanov, the 2024 Russian BMX Championship winner in the cruiser discipline, has been suspended for three years after the banned substance meldonium was detected in his doping sample.
The decision was made by the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
The athlete will not be able to return to competition until at least September 2028.
Toyanov himself stated on social media that he did not intentionally take meldonium and does not understand how it entered his system. He noted the low concentration of the substance in the sample and suggested that meldonium may have been present in dietary supplements.
The 27-year-old athlete is a winner and medalist of Russian Cup stages, holds medals from national championships, and has experience competing in international events.
Recently, anabolic steroids were detected in the doping sample of a 16-year-old Russian athlete, effectively ending his career until 2029.
As a reminder, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Sweden may skip the 2028 Ice Hockey World Cup due to Russia’s participation.
Starodubtseva also advanced to the final qualifying round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.
