Zubkov is switching leagues and heading to Greece
Ukrainian winger Oleksandr Zubkov has left Turkish club Trabzonspor and joined Greek side AEK, signing a long-term contract through 2030. The club paid approximately €4 million for the player, and the move itself has become one of the most notable transfers of the summer for Ukrainian football. This was reported by the Greek club’s press service.
Greek club AEK officially announced the signing of Ukrainian winger Oleksandr Zubkov, who previously played for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league, and immediately made it clear that they are counting on him as a long-term project, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2030.
The club welcomed the Ukrainian briefly but warmly, emphasizing that they expect stability, experience, and effectiveness in attack from him, as this is exactly what AEK needs in the fight for trophies and European competitions.
Zubkov himself has had a rather eventful career: a product of Shakhtar’s youth system, a loan spell at Mariupol, a standout period at Hungary’s Ferencváros, where he not only played but also won championships, followed by a return to Ukraine and a new chapter at Shakhtar, where he once again became one of the key players.
In 2025, the footballer moved to Turkey, where he spent a season and a half with Trabzonspor, scoring goals and providing assists, as well as helping the team win the Turkish Cup, after which his play caught the attention of a Greek powerhouse.
Zubkov is joining AEK at a time when the club is on the rise—the team won the 2025/2026 league title and is preparing for Champions League qualifying, so the Ukrainian will have to jump right into high-level matches without any time to ease into the action.
According to unofficial reports, the transfer fee was around 4 million euros, and in Greece, they expect the Ukrainian national team winger to quickly become an important part of the team’s attacking system.
