In Beijing, Polish tennis player Iga Świątek defeated American Iva Jovic in a round-of-16 match with a score of 6:1, 6:3. It was the opponents’ first career meeting, Interia Sport reports.
Advantage in the first set
Świątek started the match confidently and took a 5:0 lead in the first set. Jovic managed to win one game, but the Polish tennis player closed out the set 6:1. In the opening set, Świątek used deep topspin shots, played actively at the net and employed slice shots.

Jovic’s run of games in the second set
In the second set, Świątek also took a 2:0 lead but then lost three games in a row. The Polish tennis player levelled the score and, at 4:3 on her serve, saved two break points. After that, she did not concede another game to her opponent and finished the match with a 6:3 victory.
Iva Jovic is 18 years old. According to Interia Sport, her game is based on consistency in rallies, physical preparation and flat ball acceleration. Świątek managed to impose a high tempo and regained control of the match after a difficult stretch in the second set.
