Tennis player Swiatek overtakes Kostyuk in the live WTA rankings — Interia Sport
Iga Swiatek defeated American Iva Jovic 6:1, 6:3 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the China Open tournament in Beijing, China. Thanks to this result, the Polish tennis player secured 215 ranking points and moved up one position in the live WTA rankings, Interia Sport reports.
Victory over Jovic
Swiatek confidently won the first set and took a 2:0 lead in the second. Jovic then won three games in a row, but the Polish tennis player regained control of the match and finished it with a straight-sets victory.
Before facing Jovic, Swiatek played a difficult third-round match against Donna Vekic. After losing the first set 4:6, she trailed 2:5 in the second, but ultimately won the match.

Positions in the live rankings
Before the match against Jovic, Swiatek was only six points behind Marta Kostyuk. The Ukrainian is not playing in Beijing due to an injury and, according to the publication, plans to return to competition in Wuhan.
After the victory, Swiatek has 3,999 points and is ninth in the live WTA rankings. Kostyuk, with 3,910 points, is in tenth position.
The change may affect the seeding for the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, where both tennis players plan to compete. Among the entered participants, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina are ranked above them. The top four seeds will receive a bye into the second round, so the result in Beijing has virtually secured Swiatek the fourth seed. However, the situation may change if the organizers award a wild card to a tennis player ranked higher.
