Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy retires from Senegal national team
Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy of Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli has announced his retirement from the Senegal national team after eight years with the national side. MyJoyOnline reports.

The 34-year-old footballer confirmed the decision in a video published on Instagram on Saturday. The post was accompanied by the message “Thank you, Senegal.” The video compiled episodes from his appearances for the national team.
Mendy made his national team debut in 2018 under then-head coach Aliou Cissé. In total, he made 59 appearances for Senegal, conceded 34 goals and kept 31 clean sheets.

Titles and individual awards
One of Mendy's main achievements with the national team was Senegal's victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. In the final, the team defeated Egypt in a penalty shootout and won the continental title for the first time in its history.
The goalkeeper also represented Senegal at two World Cups — in Qatar in 2022 and at the 2026 tournament hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 2021, Mendy was named Europe's best goalkeeper for the season and the best goalkeeper of the Africa Cup of Nations. The following year, he received the Best Goalkeeper award at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony.
