Google Photos launches AI wardrobe for iOS and Android in three countries — TechCrunch

Google has made the virtual wardrobe feature in Google Photos available to all iOS and Android users in the United States, Brazil and India. The artificial intelligence-powered tool creates a digital version of a wardrobe based on photos of clothing.

As TechCrunch reports, Google announced the capability earlier this year. In June, Android users were the first to gain access to it, and the feature is now available on both mobile platforms in supported countries.

How the virtual wardrobe works

AI analyzes the items a person wore in photos and creates a digital copy of their wardrobe. In the app, items can be filtered by categories, including tops, bottoms, jewelry and other types of clothing. Users can also combine items to create different outfit options.

Google said that information about a user's clothing style and items is not shared with third parties, including retailers. The publication compares the idea behind the feature to the virtual wardrobe of Cher, the heroine of the film “Clueless.”

Other Google Photos updates

Along with the broader launch of the virtual wardrobe, Google has updated other service features. In particular, Gemini Spark allows users to select, brighten and share a photo with a single prompt. This feature is available in the United States to Google AI Pro or Ultra subscribers.

The Markup tool has received a pen for blurring confidential data, including license plates, line thickness settings for drawing, and different fonts for adding text. Moods filters have also been added for Android, which can give photos the look of 35mm film, a digital camera from the 2000s, and other styles.
