Cold weather helps you lose weight: scientists have tested an unusual method

Low temperatures may help with weight loss. Researchers from the UK and the Netherlands have concluded that regular exposure to cold helps the body burn more calories.

This was reported by The Guardian.

The study involved 47 adults who were overweight or obese. For six weeks, some participants wore special cooling vests and belts for two hours every morning, while the other group continued their normal routine.

The gel-filled cooling elements were pre-chilled in a freezer and maintained a temperature of about 15°C while being worn.

At the end of the experiment, participants who used these vests lost an average of 0.9 kg, primarily from fat tissue. Meanwhile, the control group gained an average of 0.6 kg.

Scientists attribute the effect to the activation of brown fat—a type of adipose tissue that burns energy to generate heat. Researchers suggest that regular exposure to cold may also have a positive effect on glucose and lipid levels, as well as inflammatory processes in the body.

Scientists are now studying whether other methods of cold exposure, such as short cold showers, will have a similar effect.

As a reminder, a new species of tarantula has been discovered in the U.S.

Also, Chinese scientists have created eye drops made from pig semen to treat Alzheimer’s disease.
