Number of ChatGPT Enterprise users in South Korea rises 28-fold
In South Korea, the number of users of the corporate version of ChatGPT Enterprise increased 28-fold over the year. The total number of ChatGPT users in the country grew by 35% over the same period, Korea Herald reports, citing OpenAI Korea.
The company released these figures at a briefing in Seoul marking the first anniversary of its local office. OpenAI Korea General Manager Kim Kyung Hoon attributed the growth to the country’s early adoption of artificial intelligence, its skilled developer community, and active startup ecosystem.
Integration of AI into workflows
According to Kim, even before the opening of the OpenAI Korea office, some South Korean companies directly contacted OpenAI headquarters to implement ChatGPT Enterprise. The emergence of a local team simplified interaction with businesses and accelerated the service’s adoption.
Companies are increasingly using artificial intelligence not only as a standalone chatbot for providing information, but also integrating it into internal operations, products, and services. Among examples of large-scale implementation, OpenAI named Samsung Electronics and Seoul National University.

Samsung Electronics deployed ChatGPT for its employees worldwide in research and development, marketing, overseas sales, and production management. At Seoul National University, nearly 50,000 students, faculty members, and staff use ChatGPT and Codex, OpenAI’s programming assistant, in research and administrative work.
Computing infrastructure
OpenAI Korea already offers local data hosting in South Korea for corporate and educational clients, as well as API users. The company is also preparing to process AI inference tasks in the country that require advanced graphics processing units and cloud infrastructure.
OpenAI is discussing cooperation with several Korean partners capable of providing such infrastructure. The company is also negotiating with Samsung Group and SK Group under memorandums signed in October. They concern the Stargate project and involve several entities, including SK Telecom and SK hynix. Kim noted that the project is at an early stage and specific plans have not yet been finalized.
