Samsung unveils glasses-free 3D displays in Japan — Korea Herald

Samsung Electronics demonstrated its glasses-free Spatial Signage 3D displays at game developer NC's booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026 at the Makuhari Messe exhibition center in Chiba, Japan. The company expects to use such screens in character merchandise stores and pop-up shops, Korea Herald reports.

NC's booth featured characters from the upcoming mobile game Astrae Oratio. An 85-inch vertically installed screen displayed an elevator scene: after the doors opened, a character appeared to step forward into the exhibition space, look at visitors and wave to them. Thirty-two-inch displays featuring characters making various gestures and showing emotions were also placed along the visitor route.

The effect of a three-dimensional image

Spatial Signage uses Samsung's 3D Plate technology, which creates a sense of depth without special glasses. According to the company, images of characters and backgrounds appear to extend beyond the screen.

An NC representative said the company sought to create a natural encounter between guests and characters from the moment they entered the booth, rather than merely showcase the world of the new game. According to the representative, the displays made more visitors linger at the booth, while the waiting area became a popular spot for photographs.

Focus on compact installations

Samsung is positioning the technology for Tokyo retail spaces, where store areas are limited and rents are high. The 85-inch model is 52 millimeters thick and weighs 49 kilograms. It is compatible with VESA-standard mounts, so it can be installed on a wall or a stand.

The 32-inch version is 49.4 millimeters thick and weighs 8.5 kilograms. According to Samsung, it is suitable for installation on shelves and in narrow passageways, while the displays' dimensions allow them to be placed on existing walls and in waiting areas without significant changes to the layout.

Lee Yong Min, a representative of Samsung Electronics Japan's Visual Display sales division, said the company plans to expand the use of Spatial Signage in the Japanese market, including at pop-up shops and specialized character merchandise stores. The displays were previously installed at the Safari World area of Everland park in South Korea, at the Governors Ball festival in the United States and at Gamescom 2026 in Germany.
