Waymo concentrated about 80% of its robotaxis in California and Texas — TechCrunch

In the United States, Waymo has concentrated about 80% of its fleet of approximately 4,000 robotaxis in California and Texas. Over the past three weeks, the number of Waymo vehicles in Texas has increased by more than 49%, TechCrunch reports, citing vehicle registration data.

Wayve partnership with Mercedes-Benz

Automated driving systems developer Wayve has entered into a commercial agreement with Mercedes-Benz. The startup's technology is planned to be integrated into at least one vehicle model scheduled for rollout within the next two years.

This concerns a Level 2 automation system: it can perform certain maneuvers, but the driver must remain engaged in driving. Wayve also has similar agreements with Nissan and Stellantis. Earlier, the company announced a partnership with Nissan and Uber to launch a robotaxi service in Tokyo.

Waymo is also seeking to expand the pool of robotaxi users, including by attracting teenagers.

Aurora and Einride plans

Aurora, which develops and commercializes self-driving trucks, is focused on Texas while also working with a wide range of partners. Its CEO, Chris Urmson, said that Aurora has completed its build-out phase.

Aurora plans to have more than 200 self-driving trucks by the end of the year and more than 30,000 such vehicles in operation by 2030. Swedish company Einride, which is working on autonomous and electric trucks, said it intends to use the Nvidia Hyperion platform to create the next generation of its autonomous driving system.
