YouTube is launching AI search and integrating the Gemini Omni model into Shorts
YouTube has announced the introduction of new artificial intelligence features, including the launch of the Ask YouTube smart search and the integration of the new Gemini Omni video generation model for Shorts. The new technology will allow users to completely modify and remix other people’s Shorts using text commands, such as changing the background or video style, or adding themselves to the frame.
This was announced following the Google I/O 2026 conference, according to Glavkom.
The Ask YouTube feature will operate like a chatbot, selecting the most relevant videos from the platform’s entire catalog in response to detailed questions asked in natural language. Initially, this search feature will be available only to adult YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S. At the same time, developers are implementing mandatory labeling for all content created or modified by AI, and are giving creators the right to completely prohibit other users from remixing their Shorts. Additionally, the company confirmed the launch of a lightweight version of Gemini Omni Flash on the Gemini, Shorts, and Flow services.
