A 21-year-old woman from Volyn is suspected of murdering her newborn son

In Volyn, a 21-year-old resident of Kovel was notified that she is suspected of murdering her newborn son. According to the prosecutor’s office, the woman concealed her pregnancy, was not under medical supervision, and after giving birth, took the life of her full-term baby boy.

 

In the Volyn region, police charged a 21-year-old resident of Kovel with the murder of her newborn son. This was reported on September 25 by the Volyn Regional Prosecutor’s Office. According to the investigation, the woman concealed her pregnancy and did not seek medical care. She was also not registered with any medical facilities in connection with her pregnancy.

According to law enforcement, on the night of August 3, 2026, in one of the villages in the Kovel District, the woman gave birth to a baby boy on her own. The baby was full-term and healthy, weighing 3,350 grams. The prosecutor’s office reported that after giving birth, the woman killed the newborn. She placed the child’s body in a plastic bag and hid it.

The woman has now been notified that she is suspected of the intentional murder of her newborn child by a mother. This falls under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In the near future, the court is expected to determine a pretrial measure for the suspect. According to the provisions of the article, such a crime is punishable by restriction of liberty or imprisonment for a term of up to five years. The court will make the final determination regarding the woman’s actions. She currently has the status of a suspect, and law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy.
