96-year-old Lina Kostenko appeared in a photo for the first time in a long while
Renowned Ukrainian poet Lina Kostenko has been photographed for the first time in a long while. A photo of the 96-year-old writer was released as part of the creation of a new symbolic jewelry collection to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
The jewelry brand Gunia Project presented a collection inspired by Ukrainian culture and artist Heorhii Narbut’s alphabet. It was as part of this project that a rare photo of Lina Kostenko emerged, which caught the attention of the poet’s fans.
At the same time, the brand launched a large-scale photo project titled “The Alphabet,” in which each letter of the alphabet was visually represented through images of famous Ukrainians. Lina Kostenko’s participation drew the most attention.
The 96-year-old poet, who rarely appears in public, posed for the camera in a shiny blue jacket with a vibrant pattern and light makeup.

In addition to Lina Kostenko, 31 other participants joined the photo project. They all represent different generations, professions, and fields of activity. Among the subjects are Vasyl Baidak, Jamala, Kazhanna, Yarema Malushchuk, and others.
It is known that photographer Stefan Lisovsky and art director Marta Bertman worked on this series of portraits. According to their concept, all the subjects together form an image of modern Ukraine.
“These portraits do not claim to be exhaustive. Rather, they are a fragment of a living picture of modern Ukraine—an attempt to capture the people whose ideas, work, and personal stances define its present. Each of them is a separate story, and together they form a kind of alphabet of time—open, unfinished, and one that continues to be written,” the authors of the photo project shared.
Incidentally, despite her advanced age, Lina Kostenko remains actively engaged in her creative work. In May, she presented a new collection of poems, *Wind from Mars*, and also spoke about her work on a historical novel set during the era of the Hetmanate.
The announcement of the collection appeared on the GUNIA Project’s Instagram page.
Lina Kostenko is back with a new book of poetry.
