Apricots and peaches may become more expensive or disappear from the market this summer

The unusually cold April in Ukraine has had the greatest impact on fruit and berry crops. The harvests of apricots, peaches, early cherries, and strawberries are at risk, which could affect their availability this summer. Analysts note that prices will depend on the size of the harvest.

According to the expert, the greatest impact of the spring frosts will be felt at the very beginning of the season, when the market is not yet saturated with produce.

"At risk are apricots, peaches, early cherries, and early strawberries. This is especially true for the first weeks of the season, when the market is not yet saturated," Gopka explained.

At the same time, apricots and peaches may become scarce due to the loss of part of the harvest. The expert noted that prices for these fruits will largely depend on imports.

In turn, Oleg Pendzin, executive director of the “Economic Discussion Club,” told RBC-Ukraine that he believes a shortage of apricots or cherries will not be critical for Ukrainians, as these products are not considered socially essential.

“You can live without raspberries, just as you can without cherries or apricots. You cannot live without bread, without potatoes, without vegetables, without grains,” Pendzin noted in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, in the event of a shortage of Ukrainian fruits on the market, imports from Turkey and Central Asian countries will increase.
