An FSB agent who plotted to set fire to a power substation was sentenced to 15 years in prison
A court sentenced an FSB agent who was planning a sabotage operation at an energy infrastructure facility in Kropyvnytskyi to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the convicted man was a local unemployed individual whom Russian intelligence services recruited via Telegram channels where he was looking for quick money.
According to the investigation, the man conducted reconnaissance near a main power substation that supplies electricity to the regional hospital and residential neighborhoods of the city. He studied the facility’s security system and its technical condition while preparing for a future arson attack.
The perpetrator also gathered information about possible locations of Ukrainian military units in Kropyvnytskyi and passed the data to his Russian handlers.
SBU officers detained the agent in February 2025 while he was observing a temporary deployment site of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. During a search, they seized his mobile phone, which contained evidence of contacts with FSB representatives.
The court found the man guilty of treason committed under martial law.
