A basketball club from Dnipro has repaid more than ₴9.8 million in debt for land lease
The company representing the Dnipro basketball club paid more than 9.8 million hryvnias in unpaid rent for a municipally owned land plot following an investigation by detectives from the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESB).
According to the UESB, the funds were transferred to the budget as reimbursement for unpaid taxes and fees, as well as compensation for damages caused to the state due to their late payment.
The investigation established that between 2017 and 2022, company officials underreported the declared rent for a municipally owned land plot in Dnipro.
As a result of these actions, the budget lost more than 9.8 million hryvnias.
The BEB noted that the fact of underreporting rent and the amount of damages caused were confirmed by the findings of a forensic economic examination.
After the necessary procedural steps were taken, the company fully paid off its debt and compensated the state for the losses incurred.
In light of the full reimbursement of the losses incurred, BEB detectives filed a motion with the court to exempt the company’s former director from criminal liability.
The pretrial investigation was conducted under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional evasion of taxes and fees on an especially large scale—under the procedural supervision of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to a statement from the agency, the funds have been transferred to the budget.
Previously, the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine secured the recovery of 4.5 million hryvnias in taxes after uncovering a scheme involving fictitious transactions. A freight transportation company illegally reported purchases of fuel and services in its financial statements that it had not actually received in order to reduce its VAT liabilities.
On July 28, detectives from the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine, in collaboration with the National Police, shut down two illegal cigarette manufacturing operations in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions. According to the investigation, the underground factories produced approximately 130,000 packs of tobacco products daily, which were sold off the books. The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
