A hiker from Chernivtsi was struck by lightning near a famous peak in the Carpathians
On Sunday, June 21, a 46-year-old woman from Chernivtsi was injured while hiking a popular trail through the Chornohora Range.
The woman was struck by lightning while the group was near one of the massif’s peaks.
Mountain rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, provided first aid to the victim, and evacuated her to a safe location.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. near the well-known Shpytsi Mountain. A large group of 23 hikers was following a designated trail past the high-altitude Nesamovite Lake toward the Zaroslyak tract.
A sudden change in weather conditions in the mountains led to a lightning strike that hit the woman from Bukovina.

A distress signal was sent to emergency services thanks to modern digital technologies.
“A report was received via the ‘Poryatunok’ mobile app stating that a female hiker had been injured by a lightning strike. Mountain rescuers from Zaroslyak were called in to conduct search and rescue operations,” the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast officially reported.
The rescue team quickly reached the tourist group’s location along the trail. At the time of the encounter with State Emergency Service specialists, the condition of the injured woman from Chernivtsi was assessed as satisfactory; she was conscious.

State Emergency Service personnel escorted the injured woman and the entire group of tourists down the slope to the “Zaroslyak” training and sports base.
At the foot of the mountain, medical personnel were already waiting for the victim to conduct a comprehensive examination. Rescuers successfully handed the woman over to the emergency medical team, which hospitalized her for further treatment.
The other participants in the hike did not require medical assistance, and their lives are not in danger.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
