Ukraine's budget received more than 11 billion hryvnia from the tax on Google
In the first seven months of 2026, foreign digital companies paid 11.3 billion hryvnia to the Ukrainian budget under the so-called “Google tax.” Revenue from this tax increased by approximately 15% compared to the same period last year.
This tax is paid by non-residents for providing electronic services to users within Ukraine.
From January through July, the budget received 11.3 billion hryvnias from such companies. This is 1.5 billion hryvnias more than during the corresponding period of 2025, according to the State Tax Service.
“In the first seven months of 2026, non-resident companies providing electronic services to Ukrainian users paid 11.3 billion hryvnias in ‘Google tax’ to the budget. This is 1.5 billion hryvnias more than during the same period last year,” the State Tax Service noted.
Payments are made in foreign currency. According to the tax service, foreign companies transferred 92.8 million euros and 149.4 million dollars over the first seven months. The largest amounts are paid by companies whose services are widely used by Ukrainians.
“Among the largest payers are global digital giants Google, Apple, Valve, Meta, Sony, Etsy, and Netflix,” the tax service reported.
At the same time, the list of non-residents registered as VAT payers in Ukraine continues to grow. Since the beginning of 2026, 18 more foreign companies have been added to the list.
“As of August 1, there are already 159 such taxpayers,” the State Tax Service clarified.
Not every foreign company that sells digital services is required to register in Ukraine. The determining factor is the volume of transactions with Ukrainian consumers.
“A non-resident is required to register as a VAT payer if, over the past 12 months, the total value of transactions involving the supply of electronic services within Ukraine’s customs territory exceeds the equivalent of 1 million hryvnias,” the State Tax Service explained.
For comparison, foreign providers of electronic services paid 14.4 billion hryvnias in VAT in Ukraine for the entire year of 2025. Thus, in just seven months of this year, revenue has already reached nearly 80% of last year’s annual total.
