Budanov spoke out against lowering the age for conscription in Ukraine
Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President, stated that lowering the draft age to 18–25 is unacceptable, as it could cause long-term harm to Ukraine’s future.
He made these remarks in an interview with The Times.
At the same time, Budanov emphasized that replenishing the military remains a vital process, but the approach to this must be measured.
“If we simply use the mobilization mechanism to draft all young men aged 18–25, we will destroy the very future of our state—an entire generation,” he said.
Earlier, Budanov reported that Ukraine has been fulfilling a minimal mobilization plan over the past six months, though this has been difficult.
In late April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed laws extending martial law and general mobilization.
