Charles III reaffirmed his unwavering support for Ukraine in a speech to Parliament
During the ceremonial opening of the new parliamentary session at the Palace of Westminster, King Charles III of the United Kingdom assured that the British government would continue to provide comprehensive assistance to Ukraine.
In his speech, the monarch emphasized that support for a country defending European freedom remains a priority of the United Kingdom’s foreign policy.
Addressing parliamentarians, His Majesty noted that the government would build international relations based on national interests and strategic partnerships.
“In this unstable world, my government will continue to pursue a foreign policy based on a sober assessment of national interests. It will continue its unwavering support for the courageous people of Ukraine, who are fighting on the front lines of freedom,” Charles III emphasized.
The speech devoted special attention to strengthening collective security within the Alliance and deepening ties with European allies.
Britain plans to gradually increase defense spending to meet modern challenges and reinforce its “unwavering commitment” to NATO obligations.
In addition to military support for Kyiv, the British government is initiating new legislative measures to combat foreign interference and hybrid threats.
The monarch announced an expansion of the intelligence services’ powers in the field of cybersecurity, which is intended to serve as an additional barrier against hostile influence on the country’s democratic institutions.
The monarch also mentioned preparations for the UK’s presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20), whose summit the country will host in 2027.
This presidency is intended to stimulate the global economy and strengthen international stability, which has been significantly shaken by Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
