Due to severe weather and Russian attacks, more than 160 communities are without power
As of the morning of June 23, widespread power outages have been reported in more than 160 communities across Ukraine due to severe weather, as well as new outages resulting from Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
Due to rain and strong gusts of wind, settlements in four regions have experienced partial or complete power outages:
- Sumy Oblast
- Kyiv Oblast
- Poltava Oblast
- Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast
Utility workers are already carrying out emergency repair and restoration work.
Separately, due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, new power outages have been reported in five regions:
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
- Sumy Oblast
- Kharkiv Oblast
- Chernihiv Oblast
Repair crews are working to restore power wherever the security situation allows.
According to Ukrenergo, electricity consumption as of 9:30 a.m. was 3.5%higher than the previous day.
This is attributed to the heatwave across Ukraine and the widespread use of air conditioners.
“Given the weather conditions, the use of high-power electrical appliances today should be shifted to the period when industrial solar power plants operate most efficiently—from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,” Ukrenergo noted.
The power grid continues to operate under increased load and the effects of shelling.
This was reported by NEC “Ukrenergo” on Facebook.
As a reminder, over the past few days, Russian troops have been attempting almost daily to storm the positions of Ukrainian border guards near Vovchanski Khutory in the Kharkiv region, but have achieved minimal results and suffered significant losses.
Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army carried out nearly 50 strikes on 23 settlements in 13 territorial communities in Sumy Oblast, resulting in injuries to nine civilians.
Russian drones attacked civilian vessels en route to Ukrainian ports; one person was killed.
Russian drones attacked Parutyne in the Mykolaiv region; there are wounded.
